The Rajasthan government has decided to reduce the rates of petrol and diesel from Tuesday midnight. In the meeting of the Gehlot Council of Ministers today, it was decided to reduce by Rs 4 per liter in petrol and Rs 5 per liter in diesel. The new rates will be applicable from 12 pm onwards. After the meeting of the Council of Ministers, CM Ashok Gehlot tweeted and informed about the decision to reduce VAT on petrol and diesel.
Before the cabinet meeting, the Rajasthan Petrol Dealers Association had submitted a letter to the government regarding the reduction of VAT rates. It states that the government can increase the revenue received by the state by reducing VAT. A day before Diwali, due to reduction in excise duty by the central government, the state has reduced by more than Rs 12 on diesel and Rs 6 on petrol in the state.
Since then, there was constant pressure on the state government to reduce VAT. Apart from this, all the BJP ruled states and Congress ruled Punjab had given relief to their consumers by reducing VAT. After this, there was resentment among the opposition and common people against the Gehlot
