Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi held a meeting with former Meghalaya Chief Minister Mukul Sangma and state party chief Vincent H Pala late on Monday night. During this, an attempt was made to resolve the differences between the two.
Sangma described the meeting as positive. “The matters which needed improvement were discussed in detail in the meetings with Rahul Gandhi and our party president Sonia Gandhi,” he said. Sangma said that for democracy to flourish, it is necessary for all stakeholders and members of political parties to ensure that ideals are not compromised.
Let us tell you that Sangma and about a dozen Congress MLAs were planning to join the Trinamool Congress. In between these meetings took place. Sangma rubbished speculations of joining TMC.
People with knowledge of the matter said that ahead of the by-elections to the three assembly seats on October 30, Sonia Gandhi urged the two leaders to resolve their differences and unite. Sangma is believed to have expressed displeasure over the decision to nominate Pala as the state head. Pala could not be reached for his comments.
